On July 7, the PA State House is voting on a bill that will authorize school police officers to arrest children with court authority. How twisted are our representatives to believe that in this moment, we need to be doing more to create a culture of criminalization and fear in our schools?
Our call/email script:
Hello, my name is [name], I live at [address]. I'm calling to implore you to vote against House Bill 1881-2616, which authorizes school police officers to make arrests.
The Black Lives Matter movement has revealed the fundamental racism and discrimination in law enforcement, and this bill spits in the face of the majority of this state which believes that we need to find ways to reduce the power and scope of the carceral system. We need to create a school atmosphere where our children feel safe from the horrors of the criminal justice system so that they can learn and live in peace, and this bill does the exact opposite. Thank you for your time and I look forward to continuing to work together to create a safer and more equal world for our children.
